Mobile malware

Today’s mobile phone is a versatile terminal, with e.g. office applications, where various services, programs, and games can be downloaded. For now, threats against mobile phones are minor compared to those against fixed networks and computers.

However, there are a few central things to keep in mind when using a so called smartphone:

  • Activate the PIN code request and change the code to a series of numbers that only you know.
  • Do not press the Yes button on your mobile phone unless you are sure of the consequences.
  • Destroy any MMS messages from unknown senders without opening them.
  • If a device unknown to you tries to establish a Bluetooth connection, move a couple of tens of metres away from where you are: the connection will be disconnected automatically.

An information security manual for mobile phones can be found at http://www.ficora.fi/mobiiliturva/english/. The instructions go through the key issues that make mobile phone use safer.
