Keep in Mind for Safer E-Business
Responsibility in online shopping and banking:
- Make sure you are on the right website, not a scam website. Check at least the website address and the contact information of the service provider.
- Take a look at the terms of use of the online service provider before using the service.
- Handle information regarding means of payment, such as credit card numbers, only through a secure connection. When the connection is secure, the address bar of the browser displays a padlock symbol and the address begins with https://.
- Never send credit card information or passwords via e-mail.
- When you register for online services, read first the description of how your personal information is used.
- If you use social network services on the Internet, consider carefully what personal information you publish. It is possible that you may never be able to remove the information that you have shared.
Things to remember about using e-mail:
- You should never open unfamiliar attachment files because they may include malware.
- Never reply to e-mails with advertisements or other propositions because replying will only increase the amount of junk mail you receive.
- In practice, junk mail is often circular and chain letters. Do not forward such messages.
Critical approach to searching information:
- All information presented on websites is not true.
- Please do not support piracy. Copyrights are valid also on the Internet.
A few words on technical information security:
- In order to keep a computer and the information on it safe, you must have up-to-date anti-virus software, firewall and operating system. Remember security updates also on other programs.
- Always make backup copies of important files.
- Be careful with USB memory sticks. If you lose or misplace a memory stick, valuable or secret information may get into wrong hands.
